Our project
CALOGENA IS A SUBSIDIARY OF THE FAMILY-OWNED INDUSTRIAL GROUP GORGE
“With almost two decades of experience in the nuclear sector, our Group is delighted to be strengthening its contribution to the green transition and the development of a strong national industry.”
Raphaël Gorgé
CEO of GORGÉ SAS
A project supported by GORGÉ
Calogena benefits from the dual expertise of the GORGÉ group and the team of twelve people who developed the concept. The project has been launched in 2021 by a team comprising expert advisers from NucAdvisor, all of whom have held senior positions in flagship companies in the French and European nuclear ecosystem.
In addition, the GORGÉ group is contributing its expertise in industrial deployment. GORGÉ is a diversified industrial group specialising in high-tech businesses.
The GORGÉ group has been active in the nuclear sector since 2007. Nearly 300 employees are involved in industrial and engineering activities within two companies developed by the group. The SERES TECHNOLOGIES subsidiary has expertise in nuclear mechanical design, operating safety, nuclear safety and security as well as ergonomics. The BAUMERT subsidiary designs and manufactures technical doors for the protection of nuclear sites.
WINNER OF FRANCE 2030 AND THE EUROPEAN SMR ALLIANCE, CALOGENA HAS OPENED A SUBSIDIARY IN FINLAND
Calogena has been selected as the winner of the “Innovative Nuclear Reactors” call for projects supported by Bpifrance as part of the France 2030 programme.
Through its transnational CityHeat project, Calogena is also one of only two French projects supported by the SMR industrial alliance launched by the European Commission.
The company, based in Paris, is mainly developed in Aix on its technical platform. Calogena opened its subsidiary in Finland in 2025: the country is at the forefront of nuclear district heating.
A solid industrial group
The group and its subsidiaries, two of which are listed on the stock exchange, generate revenues of 500 million euros and employ 3,300 people. GORGÉ SAS has a strong track record of creating and developing industrial technological companies.
For example, Prodways Group, founded in 2013 by Raphaël Gorgé in the 3D printing sector, has become a European leader in the sector. The company now has 460 employees and revenues of €80 million.
In recent years, the group has also built up a French technological champion in the field of navigation systems and maritime robotics, with EXAIL. This company generates revenues of nearly 300 million euros in 80 countries.
JULIEN DEREUX, CEO OF CALOGENA
JULIEN JOINED CALOGENA AFTER A CAREER AT EDF AND IN STRATEGY CONSULTING
“Low-temperature heating accounts for 1/3 of final energy needs in Europe, and 70% of it is produced by fossil fuels. The urgent need is to offer a simple, mature product to support the growth and decarbonisation of heating networks”.

Safety culture at Calogena: A collective commitment, every day
At Calogena, nuclear safety is at the heart of our priorities. It is more than just rules and procedures. It is a mindset and culture of vigilance that has guided every decision since the Calogena project started in 2023. The Calogena modules will be installed in urban areas: intrinsic safety is the fundamental requirement of the concept.
From the outset of the conceptual design phase, we have made safety a key focus of our development, in line with the recommendations of international guides (IAEA, WANO). It directs our design, technical decisions, and organization. Since the conceptual design phase, we have engaged discussion with the safety authorities in France and Finland. We also conduct regular technical reviews with external safety experts to challenge us and continuously improve our standards.
Safety culture has been integral to our major milestones and will be for future stages, reflecting our collective responsibility.
To achieve this goal:
A Quality & Safety Advisor has been assigned to support the team, provide guidance, and notify if required, with direct access to the CEO.
Awareness-raising initiatives have been launched among Calogena employees to ensure that everyone understands the meaning, scope and necessity of this safety culture.
We regularly remind our strong conviction: safety is not the responsibility of a few. It is the responsibility of everyone.
Safety concerns us all. Calogena SMR isn’t just an innovative reactor. It is a promise of safe, controlled, sustainable energy. This promise can be kept only if everyone – engineer, technician, manager, partner – plays an active role in safety at every moment.
Calogena’s policy prioritizes safety, security, health, and environmental protection. This means prioritizing accident prevention and impact mitigation before economic or industrial gains from operations.
Calogena undertakes to continuously improve the measures taken to protect the above-mentioned interests.
